The Water Crisis

Across East and Southeast Asia, more than 70 million residents in rural areas lack reliable access to clean water within a 30-minute trip. Water is often scarce, contaminated, or seasonal — placing a daily burden on families and undermining health, education, and livelihoods.

The Water Crisis

Clean water has come a long way here, and it still hasn't reached everyone.

About 1 in 4 people in the region don't have safely managed drinking water at home. Coverage rose from 65% to 75% between 2015 and 2024. Good ground gained. But the regional average hides how far behind some countries are.

In Indonesia and Cambodia, roughly 7 in 10 people still lack safely managed water. In the Philippines it's about half.

The split between city and countryside is wide too: 85% of urban residents have safe water at home, against 58% in rural areas.

And some places barely show up in the data at all. The UN can't even publish a safe-water figure for Papua New Guinea, because the information doesn't exist. That silence tells you something about how overlooked the Pacific is.

Water Solutions

Serving the Unreached

Alongside the water crisis is a deeper spiritual need. In this region, the majority of people remain unreached, and the Church is a small, often persecuted minority. neverthirst works through trusted local partners to bring water infrastructure alongside the gospel. Local pastors and churches are equipped to participate in program activities — building trust, dignity, and lasting transformation. Our work meets urgent physical needs while responding to deeper spiritual hunger.
