Since 2017, we’ve been able to serve a total of 176,024 people in Uganda.

In a country ranked 159 out of 189 on the UN’s Human Development Index, over half the population lives in severe multidimensional poverty—and access to clean water is a significant part of this issue.

Many women walk one to two hours daily to collect what water is available, and where there are existing hand pumps, many have fallen into disrepair and are unusable or unsafe.

Through the work funded by our donor family in the last 5 years, many villages in Uganda are now experiencing health, hygiene, and new joy in Jesus Christ!

Our work is centralized in northern Uganda, where we partner with a local church to saturate entire regions with access to water, hygiene, and sanitation. Our partners are also mobilizing churches to transform communities with the good news of Jesus Christ.

These programs install new hand pumps in communities, rehabilitate existing hand pumps that have fallen into disrepair, and ensure communities have an effective maintenance plan to keep the well functioning in the future.

Of neverthirst’s planned projects to be completed by 2023, so far our donors have partnered with us to see:

  • 54 of 69 new wells dug in unreached villages
  • 35 of 53 well rehabilitations completed

When our efforts began, only 48% of the population in our targeted regions had access to improved water sources.

By the end of 2022, we’re on track to increase the percentage of people who have access to safe, clean water to 80%.

Uganda Clean Water Progress Update

nClean water has opened doors for many villages in Uganda to hear the gospel and experience the true, living water of Jesus Christ.

After the drilling of a hand pump in the Wii Polo Village in northern Uganda, local evangelist Ajok Doreen saw the perfect opportunity to reach more people with the gospel.

“The village doesn’t have a church, so I have been praying for more avenues to share about the love of Jesus Christ. God has answered this through our new hand pump. The presence of it has given me an opportunity to start a Bible study group right next to it and reach people with the Word of God.

In the beginning, there was some hesitation from the people to attend. But as those who attended shared with others, more people became interested and now we have an average of 20 people attending Bible study every week.

One woman who did not want anything to do with God was persuaded to attend and recently confessed that she now believes that God is real and wants to know more about Him.”

Doreen now hopes that the Bible study group will grow into a community church and reach more people with the good news about Jesus Christ.

“This is just the beginning of greater things to come. The God who has begun the good work in Wii Polo will bring it to completion and his Word will not return to Him void.

The seed of the gospel we have planted will one day grow into a strong community of believers in this village. I believe it.”

There is more to do in Uganda. Will you partner with us to see these villages flourish?

To reach our goal by the end of 2023, we’ll need to fulfill the remaining funding needs for 31 new wells and 12 well rehabilitations.
